Many accessories for your small pets are made of plastic. Plastic is a great source of pollution all over the planet and is sometimes not safe. It is however possible to find some eco-friendly, natural and sustainable alternatives.
Cages
Do you want to avoid cages with a plastic tray? Then you should chose a glass terrarium (for small rodents such as mice, hamsters or gerbils), or a wooden indoor enclosure. Wooden hutches are also a good choice for outdoor rabbits.
Feeders
Nothing better than ceramic bowls: besides being impossible to overthrow because of their weight, they also resist the teeth of rodents! They also do very well in the dishwasher.

Drinking bottles
You can opt for glass bottles.
Houses and hideouts
Plastic dens are often accused of holding humidity and causing fungus. It is better to choose a classic wooden house. And why not one made of hay or herbs! There are plenty of dens made from natural materials for rabbits and rodents of all sizes.

Beds
For the greatest comfort of your rabbit or guinea pig, you can go 100% natural with a basket made of rattan, reed or water hyacinth. And let’s not forget the countless fabric beds available on the market.
Climbing accessories
In order to make your little rodent climb, you can add in the cage a vine, a wooden bridge, a suspended bridge with a ladder and knotted ropes, a wooden ladder, a climbing station, a staircase, some suspended ropes… No need for plastic!
Tunnels
Wood, linen, wicker… We can now find a lot of tunnels made of safe materials, of all sizes and for all species.
Wheels
For small rodents, the wooden wheels are the best. Avoid metal wheels, because their bars are not comfortable for the small legs and can injure the tail.
Toys
We can absolutely do without plastic! To entertain your rabbit or ferret with healthy toys, you have a wide range of products: rattan or seagrass balls, string balls, corncob toy, wooden cubes…

Litter boxes
To replace the litter box of a rabbit or ferret, or the “pee corner” of a guinea pig, simply choose a flat dish made of ceramic or glass, with high edges.
